Maha Shivaratri is one of the main Hindu festivals celebrated with jollity. Shivaratri or Maha Shivaratri (Night of Shiva) is a Hindu festival, celebrated all over the country with great enthusiasm. Lord Shiva is one of the main gods for Hindu Devotees. Maha Shivaratri means a  great night for shiva.  Fasting and night long stays are associated with this festival.

Maha Shivratri is celebrated on then Chaturdasi ( 14^th Day) in  the month of  Magha as per Hindu Calendar. Chaturdasi falls on one day before Amavasya ( No Moon day).  This year in 2013 Maha Shivaratri ( Mahashivratri) is falling on the 10^th day of March. Shiva Ratri is dedicated to Lord Shiva.

Maha Shivratri is the day to rejoice…to pray to the almighty for wellness. Almost all Hindus throughout the world offer prayers in the morning/evening and some observe fasting ( vrata) throughout the day. Most people visit the nearby temples of Shiva and offer prayers in large crowds.
